Full Review of Every SAT Test Date 2018-2019

Full Review of Every SAT Test Date 2018-2019 SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips There are multiple SAT test dates a year, and choosing the best one can be tricky. If you choose a test date too early, you may not be fully prepared, but if you choose one too late, your scores may not arrive in time for college application deadlines. You also need to take your own schedule into account as well. Will there be certain times of the year when you’re extra busy with a sport or club, or times when you’ll be too busy studying for your classes? The SAT is already difficult enough, and you don’t want to make things harder on yourself by choosing a test date that doesn’t fit your schedule. Fortunately, we’re here to help you choose the best SAT test date for you. This guide covers all the SAT test dates for the 2018/2019 testing year, and we offer specific advice on each test date for sophomore, juniors, and seniors, so you’ll be able to decide exactly when to take the SAT. 2018 SAT Test Dates The fall 2018 SAT test dates are generally best for juniors taking the SAT for the first time and seniors getting in one last SAT before college application deadlines. We don’t recommend current high school sophomores take the SAT on one of these dates because it’ll likely be too early in your high school career for you to score your best. August 25, 2018 Registration Deadline: July 27, 2018 Late Registration Deadline: August 15, 2018 Sophomores This exam date is too early for sophomores. At this point, the beginning of your sophomore year, you’ll only be about halfway through high school, and you won’t have studied many of the concepts tested by the SAT yet. Juniors This is a great test date for juniors to take the SAT for the first time. You’ll have all summer to study so you can be well prepared on test day, and if you’re not happy with your score, you’ll still have plenty of time for retakes. Many students end up taking the SAT more than once in order to get their desired score, and taking your first SAT early on in your junior year puts you in a great spot to do this. Seniors If you’re a senior and you’re still not happy with your SAT score, this is a good test date to give it one last shot. By taking the SAT on this date, you’ll still get your scores back in time for college application deadlines, including early action and early decision deadlines (which are usually in October or November). Also, by taking the SAT early on in your senior year, you’ll avoid trying to balance studying for the SAT at the same time you’re trying to complete college applications, and you’ll have all summer to study for the test. October 6, 2018 Registration Deadline: September 7, 2018 Late Registration Deadline: September 26, 2018 Sophomores This test date is still too early for sophomores. However, if you want to get in some testing practice, you can take the PSAT which will be offered on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.Only juniors who take the PSAT are eligible for National Merit awards and scholarships, but taking the PSAT as a sophomore can help you be more prepared for both the PSAT and the SAT in the future. You’ll get an idea of what the tests will be like and what areas you should focus on in your future studying. Juniors As a junior, you have the chance to take the PSAT this year and compete for National Merit scholarships. The PSAT is on October 10th, so if you’re already putting in a lot of prep for the PSAT, it may make sense for you to take the SAT just a few days before it, since the two tests are very similar. Even if you aren’t taking the PSAT, this test date is still another good choice for you to take the SAT for the first time and still have plenty of time for a retake. Seniors If you’re a senior, you can take the SAT on this test date and still be able to send your scores by the regular application deadline of most colleges (typically January 1).If you’re applying early action or early decision, this test date will still likely be OK for getting your scores in for those deadlines, but double check your application deadlines first to make sure. Also note that this is the absolutely last SAT test date for getting your scores in by those early deadlines. November 3, 2018 Registration Deadline: October 5, 2018 Late Registration Deadline: October 24, 2018 Sophomores This test is still too early for sophomores to be well prepared to take the SAT, but if you’re really interested in seeing what the test is like (or you’ve taken the PSAT and want to start SAT studying), you can take some SAT practice tests to get a sense of how you’re doing and where you need to make improvements. If you’re unhappy with your practice test scores, remember that you still have plenty of time to get more studying done, and with an efficient study plan, you can make big jumps in your SAT score. Juniors This another solid test date for juniors, and if you’ve just taken the PSAT, you can keep your studying going for just a few more weeks and take this November SAT test date. Seniors This test date is too late if you’re applying early action or early decision, but your scores will be back in time for most regular decision deadlines.Just remember that, if you plan on taking the SAT on this date, you’ll likely be working on college applications at the same time and will have to juggle SAT studying, applying to colleges, and regular schoolwork at the same time, so you may not get in as much SAT study time as you were hoping. December 1, 2018 Registration Deadline: November 2, 2018 Late Registration Deadline: November 20, 2018 Sophomores While we still don’t recommend sophomores take the SAT this early, you can begin prepping for the PSAT 10, if you’ll be taking it.The PSAT 10 is a version of the PSAT designed specifically for sophomores, and, if your school administers it, you’ll take it sometime between the end of February and the end of April. The PSAT 10 is somewhat easier than the SAT (since it’s for younger students), but the two tests are still quite similar in terms of format and content tested. This means that studying for one test can help you do well on the other. Juniors You’ll likely be studying for finals around this time, so we don’t recommend this SAT test date for juniors as much as the other ones offered during the 2018/2019 school year. You can definitely still take the SAT on this date, but make sure you won’t be overloading yourself between your SAT study plan and your regular schoolwork. Seniors For most seniors, this is the absolute last date you can take the SAT and still get your scores in time for college application deadlines. For some schools, it may actually be too late, so be sure to check the deadlines of each of the schools you’re applying to in order to make sure you don’t miss a key deadline! And remember, if you’re unhappy with your SAT score, there won’t be another chance for you to do a retake. Even if this date still works with your college deadlines, you’ll likely be studying for finals and putting the finishing touches on your college applications during this time. For most seniors, we recommend choosing an earlier test date so you have enough time to devote to studying before the SAT. 2019 SAT Test Dates These 2019 SAT exam dates will be too late for seniors, but they can be good options for sophomores or juniors. March 9, 2019 Registration Deadline: February 8, 2019 Late Registration Deadline: February 27, 2019 Sophomores You may have taken or be taking the PSAT 10 around this time, but you can also take the SAT on this date if you want to. This is still pretty early in your high school career to be taking the actual SAT, so if you do decide to take it, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get a great score, especially on Math, where you may not have covered some of the concepts yet. Juniors This is another solid test date for juniors to take the SAT for the first or even second time if you took it in the fall and have been able to put in a solid amount of studying since then.By now you’ll know most or all of the concepts tested on the SAT, and you won’t be studying for finals at this time. Seniors This exam date is too late for seniors planning to attend college in the fall. May 4, 2019 Registration Deadline: April 5, 2019 Late Registration Deadline: April 24, 2019 Sophomores High-achieving sophomores can take the SAT on this date since by now you will have covered many of the subjects tested on the SAT.However, it’s rare to reach your SAT goal score this early in your high school career; so don’t worry too much about a top score right now. Instead, if you take the SAT on this date, use this score as a baseline to figure out how much you need to improve and in which areas. If you have finals around this time though, you may want to choose a different test date so you aren’t taking on too much, especially if this is your first time taking the SAT. Juniors If you haven’t taken the SAT yet, we recommend you take it on this dateso that, if you want to retake the test, you have the entire summer to study and several test dates during your senior year for potential retakes. However, this test date may conflict with your finals, and if it does the March or June dates will likely work better for you. Seniors This exam date is too late for seniors planning to attend college in the fall. June 1, 2019 Registration Deadline: May 3, 2019 Late Registration Deadline: May 22, 2019 Sophomores This is another good test date for high-achieving sophomores, especially if the May test date conflicted with your finals. With this test date, you’ll still get your scores back by mid-summer and can get in a lot of studying before school starts again so you’re well prepared to take the SAT again in the fall of your junior year. Juniors By taking the SAT on this date, you’ll get your scores back in mid-summer so you’ll have several weeks to study and be well prepared if you need to take the SAT again early in your senior year. However, again, make sure this SAT test date doesn’t conflict with your school finals before you register for it. Seniors This exam date is too late for seniors planning to attend college in the fall. Review: SAT Test Dates 2018 - 2019 There are seven SAT test dates for the 2018/2019 testing year: August 25, 2018 October 6, 2018 November 3, 2018 December 1, 2018 March 9, 2019 May 4, 2019 June 1, 2019 For sophomores, the best test dates are those at the end of the school year: May and June. These later test dates will give you the best chance of knowing most of the information tested on the SAT. However, just make sure you don’t choose a date that conflicts with your finals. For other SAT preparation, you can take the PSAT 10 and/or the PSAT. For juniors, pretty much any test date will work. We recommend taking your first SAT in the fall of your junior year and doing a possible retake in the spring. This gives you plenty of time to study for your retake and possibly take the SAT again in the fall of your senior year if you need to. You can also take the PSAT in October as additional SAT practice and to compete for National Merit. For seniors, we recommend taking your final SAT in the late summer or early fall: August or October. You can study for the SAT over the summer so it doesn’t conflict with filling out college applications, and you’ll be able to meet school deadlines, even early action/decision deadlines, with either of these dates. If absolutely necessary, seniors can also take the November or December test dates, but be aware that you may not get your scores back in time for all your college applications if you choose one of these dates. LAW OF BUSINESS ORGANISATIONS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

LAW OF BUSINESS ORGANISATIONS - Essay Example The principals hand over the running of the corporate body to the management with the aim of benefiting from professional management of such corporate body. The agency theory offers many views of this relationship, as well as prepositions on how this relationship can be nursed in order to benefit the principals. The subject of this essay is to examine the ways in which agency cost theory has influenced company law and corporate governance reform. AGENCY THEORY The Problem to be Uprooted The concerns that the agency theory raises were first raised by Adam Smith. Smith noted that when a business unit grows into a level at which its management is handed over to other members who are not owners, the running of such a business will not be optimized. The new people who are responsible for managing the business lack an equivalent commitment as the owners. This particularly rises because of conflict of interests. Conflict of interests comes up because the agents will want to maximise their b enefits at the lowest efforts while the principals will want to incur the least expenses but with maximum input from the agents to that the principals’ benefits are maximized.1 These concerns were revisited by other scholars, for instance, Berle and Means, but were fortified by the efforts of Jensen and Meckling.2 Jensen and Meckling clearly explained the conflict of interest that often comes up in the delegation of duties by the principals to the agents. They called it the agency problem. They observed that because agents do not own the business unit they are running, there are likely chances that they will commit ‘moral hazards’. Moral hazards in this context are actions that benefit the agents but at the expense of the business unit or rather the business unit owners. Such actions as shirking duties to attend to personal matters arise when non owners of a business start running it. Such actions are clearly not in the best interest of the principals.3 In order to solve the agency problem, two suggestions were made. One was that the delegation of duties and that the relationship between principal and agent must be designed in a manner that will uphold efficiency. The second suggestion made was that there has to be an effective means of monitoring the agents. Jensen clarified that in the first suggestion, there has to be consensus on the amount of rights that the principals will transfer to the agents. The agents have to be allowed enough rights to allow them execute their duties as pertains to those rights but they should not be too much to the extent of undermining the principals’ rights. And in the second suggestion a mechanism is created that will monitor the agents to ensure that what is agreed in the first suggestion is being adhered to – that is, the agents do not overstep their mandate. Thus from the very outset, the agency theory is all about corporate governance and company law. Putting up structures to enable agents manage a corporate body in a certain way that the principals wants is actually influencing how corporate governance is undertaken.4 It is clear that even though principals invite agents to run their business for efficiency purpose due to the professional skills that these agents have, the agents to some extent are not likely to work as hard as the principals would have worked if they had the skills that the agents possess. It therefore becomes inevitable that the corporate body will lose some value due to the change

Holistic Nursing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Holistic Nursing - Essay Example In holistic nursing care, delivery of healing focuses on the relationship with the person, which contrasts with traditional nursing that has an orientation towards diseases and their cures. Holistic nursing emphasizes self-care practices, minding others and therapeutic use of the self to facilitate healing and creating patterns of wellness in others. The holistic nurse (HN), therefore, catalyzes and channels the healing process by respecting individual encounters about health, health beliefs and ideals. The caring process attends to physiological, psychological and spiritual needs of the patients contrary to traditional treatment methods. The HN supplements and enriches the nursing practice and consequently enables individuals to achieve their maximum healing potential (Mariano, 2007). The HN addresses the principles of respect and holism. Human beings differ from one individual to the other. The HN recognizes the totality of an individual’s (body, mind, emotion, and spirit) and their connections to the environment (culture, belief systems, relationships, and context). The second principle is choice and autonomy. Health is an equilibrium and improvement of well-being and not just absence of disease. Therefore, the key focus is on health promotion, prevention of diseases, health restoration, and relief of symptoms. The HN acknowledges that health is dynamic and constantly changes from a state of well being to illness. Therefore, the HN empowers the clients to make the right choices to promote their health. The third attribute in HN practice is autonomy. Nursing practice is a science that uses theory, critical thinking, reflection, and research. The nurse is to respect and give the clients the freedom to make their choices regarding their health irrespective of their knowledge and experiences. The holistic art of nursing stipulates nurses should integrate care, responsibility and deliver spiritual care in nursing.

Social Issues And Public Policy Topics Politics Essay

Social Issues And Public Policy Topics Politics Essay Social issues and public policy topics were, traditionally, managed by states through a central regulatory agenda consisting of bureaucracies and governmental domestic legislation. However, this setting-standards approach has presented some deficiencies which, from 1980s on, led to a research towards the development of new policy rationale. Among those who underlined and examined the shift away from the state as the sole actor in political and economical decisions is Martin Janiche in his book State Failure, The Impotence of politics in Industrial Society. The given book reflects the highly discussed topic of the relationship between state and market. In specific, it deals with the failure of politics, as far as decision making is concerned, to take and implement decisions that run counter to the prevailing trend(M. Janiche, 1990: x). During the 1980s the policies of industrialized states shifted towards a non-governmental regulation of the economy. State centered management of economy was gradually replaced by the privatization of the production of public goods and services as well as the deregulation of price controls and entry restrictions. Thus, international bodies and international organizations as well as private actors assumed a different, far more influent role in the new modes of decision making. This gradual mutation led to state failure and to a kind of a need to redefine states responsibilities towards more direction and organization policies rather than preventive measures.( ). Janicke refers to state failure providing useful explanation of the term through a lucid formation of a theory which links to market failure (32). Afterwards, he focuses on puclic health sector, the protection of the environment and the transport and energy policy in order to provide more concrete examples of the domains that the state fails to prove effectiveness. His argumentation proceeds with state failure as state indebtedness and its causes since 1970 (78). A critical question presented in this chapter is whether or not the welfare state costs too much (Ch.7). Then, the author devotes two chapters of his book in order to identify two processes that cause state failure. That is the superindustrialism as a phenomenon of capitalism appeared after the post-war boom and the tank syndrome which as a term (to be analyzed below) refers to states and politics losing their ability to regulate. He also makes remarks about the state failure within a scientific socialism framework, that is state failure from a socialist perspective derived from the Soviet-type communist countries of Eastern Europe. Last but not least, the author chose to conclude his work referring to political science as methodological analysis. This final chapter actually mirrors his choice for a realistic analysis of problem-oriented political science referring at the same time to key concepts particularly used throughout the book such as, agents, the concept of power, interests as motives for decision, the correlation between crises and development and the concept of strategy as calculated decisions. We shall now proceed in some key concepts presented by the author in the book that practically reflect the essence of Janickes work. The principal notion that consists a key element in understanding the authors points is the power accumulation process. This notion is directly linked to crises generation. The impotence of politics in times of crisis has as an outcome the insecurity of power and, thus, desmlantilng power potentially can have a positive outcome (131). The author distinguishes 5 ways of dismantling power; By decentralization, by countervailing power from above, from below, from outside and from within (131). If any fruitful result could occur then it would happen within the power from within framework, in more simple words citizens are those who can intervene against the state failure and the market pressure. In this sense, the book provides some revolutionary implications that can lead to political reform movements in a universal scale. However, this suggestion rests upo n the reader to elaborate, confirm or reject. The use of the term power is omnipresent as it is directly or indirectly connected to governments, politics and states. However, power also has to do with other sectors such as bureaucracy, industry, the media and the industrial organization. As the roots of the problem are located in the industrial structure it would be a vacuum not to refer to the role of the state in the industrial system. Indeed, the author devotes a whole chapter (the first one) in order to give a definition of the industrial system and the state as well as to examine the power relations that lie in both of them. Both terms of evonomic and political state failure provide a practical beginning of the text as the reader has the opportunity to familiarize with terms that will be widely used. Economic state failure equals the failure of the state to supply a country with public goods that are too higly priced and too low in quality (1). Political state failure means a chronic inability to take decisions widely agreed to be necessary (1). The problem actually starts when politicians fail to fulfill their duty and to serve the cause for which they were elected in the first place. So, state failure derives, in a primal level, from within the same structure of a state and its representatives. However, the problem is far more complex for the author to rest only upon that. He goes further with his argumentation including industrialization and bureaucratization as processes of power accumulation that, in a distorted way, evolved from being indices of social progress to generating a list of problems that affect the social well being and the advancement of society. Bureaucracy and industry are correlated as the first one is pervading in politics and the second one in economy. The bureaucratization problem has to do with the sizes of administrations and the controllability of state machineries. The important question posed here is to what extent are bureaucracies capable to correspond efficiently to problems. Clearly, the beaurocratic centralization has failed to provide for viable social solutions and that is why the author suggests a drift towards more decentralized solutions for problems. Trying to provide a functional, multi-leveled, definition of the state, Janiche distinguishes four functions; the regulatory, the legitimation, the infrastructure and the nuisance abatement function. The regulatory function is connected to the economic agents and the increasing demand for regulation by the state which, if not achieved, will lead to the unpredictability of the economic activity (8). The legitimation function concerns the decision-makers and their responsibility to make accurate decisions and avoid the failure of bureaucracy. Both the infrastructure and the nuisance abatement function have to do with two of the most fundamental economic functions of the state linked to economic growth (9). After having determined the fundamental functions of the state the author demonstrates their non-applicability via the state failure theory. In a nutshell, the state failure theory emphasizes in states reduced regulation capacity. According to Janicke, states have a small capacity for political intervention and they are functionally ineffective and economically inefficient in settling domestic problems. The theory of state failure is closely related to the theory of market failure as the first came as a response of the latter (31). A very thorough argumentation proves he interconnection and the interaction of those two theories. Indeed, the state failure theory was a response to the market failure theory which was based on the incapacity of market to satisfy certain types of demands that state, on the other hand, would be the most appropriate to correspond( for example the demands for law and education). Therefore, when the state needs to intervene and correct market failure but fail s in doing so, we have a clear image of how the theory works. Janicke makes a considerable remark about bureaucracy. He argues that the proliferating bureaucracy is only a side-effect of the non-effectiveness of a state a not the cause. One of the causes lies, as mentioned above, in market economy. This is the first paradox in the theory of state failure. Overall there are five paradoxes. In the second one he claims that even though state fails in many tasks it still remains an economic actor since it manages to receive incomes-though short-term- in problematic areas of industrial society (35). The third paradox that state failure generates is the claim that the more money spent on fixing problems caused by the industrial sector the less the interest in taking preventing action before the problem emerges (35). The fourth one is connected to the previous paradox. That is, the less preventive action by the state equals more expensive activity for resolving the problem, so the need for more taxes is increased. The last paradox is the antithesis be tween quantity and quality in the state. Huge budgets dont necessarily mean political power. Even though the reasoning is logically acceptable, some examples would have made his theory more accurate. He only provides an example of the last paradox using the case of criminality and state expenses in Western Germany from 1965 to 1985 (35). Janiche makes a useful comparative public policy contribution by applying the previous ideas in the areas of public health, environmental protection, transport, energy and economic policies and tax expenditures. In view of the fact that the basic incapability of the society to follow a humane industrial development is not a technical difficulty but a problem of power, the author suggests the elimination of the monopoly of power of industrial production through the reinforcement of powers of other groups and institutions that could potentially have balance effects . Among actions in favour of counterbalancing powers is the expansion of political responsibility to institutions that better represent more generalized interests, not just producers, and decentralization to local units of government within a more effective central or federal coordination. Janicke considers citizens capable of exploiting economic and environmental crises as opportunities to build these countervailing powers in society (134). The author mentions two major processes working in different directions that result in state failure. The first one is superindustrialism and the second is the tank syndrome. Superindustrialism is a phenomenon of the post war boom. The excessive level of industrialization increased the demand for state regulation. On the other hand, the tank syndrome has to do with a late reaction of the hierarchized state centres that because of their rigid power structures failed to respond to crises arisen on time and efficiently (111). This book review will be concluded after mentioning two points; the application of state failure theory in scientific socialism and the political science as a realistic analysis. Janicke throughout his book has used a western framework to locate his argumentation. He particularly used examples of Western Germany (and Japan as well) to illustrate state failure. In the penultimate chapter he changes the reasearh framework by introducing the communist variant. Eastern Europe consists an extreme example of the consequences brought by industrialism but the author is fully aware of this case. He underlines the difference between the western and eastern states cases arguing that in the latter bureaucracy was before industry and sometimes it was bureaucracy that generated industry (129). Last but not least, the author makes his methodological choice clear. After referring to the difficulties that political science faces because of the abstractness of its subject matter (137) and the distinction between the realistic and the idealistic approach, he brings upon the subject of realistic analysis. He used this method to locate the problem of politics in industrial society. He took a wide and comparative approach in order to examine the regulatory governmental failure. However, some key points still remain confusing for the reader. It would be very interesting if the author could provide some answers on the actual way crises can be utilized politically in order for rigid centralized power to be surmounted. He could also use some extra empirical data that could enforce his theories and leave the reader totally convinced. The mqjor contribution of the book reviewed above State Failure, The Impotence of politics in Industrial Society in the state theories field lies in its proposed solution. The solution to the economic standstill lies upon the redefinition of power relationships rather than a technical approach. This book can have a critical value for those interested in a variety of fields, from comparative public policy to comparative political economy and environmental policy.

Analysis of Gandhi Quote :: Mohandas Gandhi Essays

Revenge spreads like wild fire in the United States. It?s all one big chain reaction. One person says something about another person. The other retaliates. It?s a never ending cycle. ?An eye for an eye only makes the world blind? says Mohandas Gandhi. People are blinded by there own personal compulsions to seek revenge that they don?t see that they are perpetuating the hatred. An eye for an eye, you punch me ill punch you. You hurt my feelings ill hurt your feelings. Makes the world blind, the spell binding reaction keeps going until there is nothing left to fight for. Gangs in the inner cities are continuously attacking each other and seeking revenge. I?m blind and you?re blind. My friends are gone and your friends are gone. Not stopping the vicious cycle can only cause more harm. A former gang member who killed four people was put to death last night in California calling up the notions of retribution and redemption. How sad for those families whose loved ones died horrific deaths. And how sad for our society that we killed a man last night as well. Death is death. I have not walked in those family member's shoes. I don't know what it feels like to lose a loved one to violent murder. I cannot imagine their lives. I feel such sadness for their loss. The terrible truth is that five people have been killed. And now what do we do? If we keep killing each other what will that do?(Crossleft.org). There needs to be some one to start a new reaction. Some one who is the bigger person. Some one like Gandhi. Gandhi never resorted to violence as a solution. He used his mind and his words to fight his battles. Gandhi was arrested many times for his protest against violence(kamat.

Lighthouse Learning Academy understands that we serve a community that works various and long hours. We gladly provide before and after school care for families that require assistance. During the after school program we provide various activities and projects to enhance life skills as well as, an established time for children to do homework and tutoring is also available if your child needs help.Transportation services are available to and from local elementary schools. Lighthouse Learning Academy hopes to make getting to and from work less strenuous for working parents by providing the operating hours of 5:30 am to 6:30 pm. Being that we set out to service our community, t he vision of Lighthouse Learning Academy is to make it possible for all children, youth, and families to reach their potential in a safe, nurturing, and affordable environment. Our mission at Lighthouse Learning Academy is to afford children with the premier quality early care and education, to serve as an accommodating system and source for families, strengthening the communities that we serve, and to work interchangeable with other networks and services to make certain that high quality preschool education remains safe and affordable for all families. We believe that from infancy, and through the school years, we are helping to chart a successful outcome for our children. We work with parents from pregnancy to make sure that their children are placed in a compassionate, encouraging, and nurturing environment. We offer a curriculum that focuses on all of the developmental domains, and an age specific method that helps children move forward from one milestone to the next in a way that has been confirmed to establish a strong basis for lifelong learning. We believe that there is a vital link between these values and the ongoing commitment of our staff. Therefore, our staff is encouraged and supported as they further their educational understanding of early childhood education. Lighthouse Learning Academy staff members serve as coaches and mentors to each other; enabling them to share ideas, experiences, and up to the minute knowledge of new research, policies and best practices. In addition, we provide on going skill set training for staff through meetings, newsletters, and state specified trainings. We do our best to provide parents with resources pertaining to high quality health and dental care, as well as nutrition, cognitively stimulating home environments, access to services, strong social connections, and safety precautions for children. New parents, or parents that are new to our neighborhoods, can rely on us for information and support during life’s transitions. Lighthouse Learning Academy is one of the strongest advocates for children and families in the area that we serve. We are aware of the responsibilities that we have to our families and children to be a voice for affordable, high quality preschool services. We take pride in working with local support agencies, legislatures, and school systems to provide safe, strong, and constant services for children from birth through the school years. We take pride in our parents, our staff, and the valuable chance that we have to be a part of your child’s development. The influence that we can have as partners for children is beyond measure. At Lighthouse Learning Academy we think that all children have a right to respect, in spite of their skill levels. We provide an environment that is safe yet thought-provoking, and a curriculum that challenges them through creativity and learning through play. Consequently, our program supports the following philosophy about children and th eir growth: 1. Each child has a unique learning style, learns at a different pace, by different methods and at different ages of maturation. 2. A positive attitude develops in children, who can fulfill their goals, complete tasks on their own, and work with others and receive positive feelings from others. 3.Children learn self-discipline through understanding, commitment, and reinforcement. 4. Children gain their independence by being allowed to do things for themselves as they are capable of, but keeping in mind new skills. In a safe, caring, respectful environment, children have the greatest chance to grow and develop. Such a setting should be the basis of all childcare programs. We, as educators, should do our best to create an environment that is rewarding, inspiring and supporting of all possible learning and growing opportunities. An encouraging learning environment is provided through a well design physical environment, the instructional materials, equipment, relationships es tablished between everyone, and daily routines. It is in this environment that each child's growth takes place. The basis for creating learning environments that promotes growth comes from the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC's) philosophy of child development and learning that contains developmentally appropriate practice.A developmentally appropriate learning environment: (1) Provides learning centers that encourage mixing of multiple content areas, the library should contain a variety of books such as big books, picture books, books with words for teacher to read, books covering a wide range of topics, headsets with audiotapes; in blocks there will be large unit blocks, hollow blocks, different types of vehicles, pencil, paper and books related to construction. 2) Provides both active and quiet activities, the library should be an area for children wanting to read alone or quietly listen to a book read by the teacher or enjoy music through head sets; while the block area promotes lots of movement to complete projects. (3)Provides materials that encourage awareness and knowledge of diversity through books about different cultures, as well as dolls of different races, and musical instruments from a variety of cultures. (4) Ensures that children have easy access to materials. 5) Makes sure that there are plenty of materials available. (6) Offers children the chances for isolated and group play in view of an adult. (7) Makes sure that there is adequate space for individual, small- and large-group experiences, both inside and outside. (8) Displays classroom materials and children’s art at children's eye level. (9) Promotes literacy in the environment through a variety of sources for print and audio. The infant room through the 4 year old room will be comprised of teachers that are highly qualified. This program employs qualified persons who are 18 years of age or older, who have been taught in Early Childhood Educati on, and who show the personal characteristics for working with children†¦. Employees working with school-age children have been trained in early childhood, child development, or a related field. The amount of schooling will vary depending on the level of responsibility of the position. Employees of a large group of children should have at least a CDA or an associate degree in Early Childhood Education. The Pre-K classrooms will have a Lead Teacher and an Assistant Teacher. The Lead Teacher will be required to possess a two- or four-year degree in the early childhood field. All assistant teachers must possess at least a CDA. Teaching is full of many responsibilities, roles, and challenges. As an early childhood educator, you will be required to wear many hats. As a teacher, you should be prepared to be flexible. It is important to remember that your job description may change if you are needed in other areas to fill in. Early childhood teachers assist learning by providing activi ties and materials that children find appealing.By supplying a developmentally appropriate environment, interesting materials, and time to explore, and play, children find learning easy and fun! Teachers have to communicate with many people throughout the day, ranging from parents to administrators, as well as the children. Early childhood teachers must be ready to communicate with all of these people. You should feel at ease opening up, asking questions, and sharing your experiences. Paperwork, lesson planning, preparing materials and the environment, require teachers to have strong management skills.Managing a classroom requires organizational skills, and commitment. There are many balloons floating in the air and it is your task to keep them up! Discipline is the guidance, encouragement, and support that adults use to influence children. Appropriate discipline helps children learn how to interact and develop self-control. The staff at Lighthouse Learning Academy understands these concepts and uses the following discipline strategies: First and most importantly, the staff creates a positive and safe environment in which all competencies can be fostered and where there is little opportunity for misbehavior.Secondly, teachers always model appropriate behavior, both verbal and non-verbal, including body language. Teachers set limits, which reflect realistic expectations for the age and development of each child. When there is conflict between children, teachers will utilize Dan Gartrell’s Five Finger Formula. The five finger formula involves five steps. The first step is to cool everyone down. No one can negotiate when they are upset. The second step involves having everyone involved to agree what the conflict is about. Thirdly, you would want to involve everyone in coming up with possible solutions to the problem.Fourth, you would want every to agree on the solution. And finally, you must try out the solution that everyone agreed upon. This technique te aches children how to solve problems on their own. If these strategies are not successful, a child may be removed from the group and guided to a quite area with an independent activity. If your child continues to have problems, we will contact you. We will do our best to work with you to correct the behavior issues. If there is still no change in the behavior, a short suspension may be used at the judgment of the director. If a child is not adapting or benefiting from our program, we reserve the right to disenroll the child from the program, also at the discretion of the programs director. Communication between the parent and the caregiver is important to having a successful child care arrangement. After an adjustment period, your child should be able to make the move from home to child care fairly easily. The staff will be providing support to you by discussing your child's progress and will recognize the parent as the primary caregiver.A tour of the center is a vital part of the or ientation process. It is at this time when you will meet the staff members that will be responsible for educating your child as well as view the classroom environment. We suggest that you bring your child along so that, he/she can become familiar with the teacher and the classroom. A tour can be arranged at anytime, just call to set up a scheduled time or just drop in. Our staff welcomes you with open arms. Lighthouse Learning Academy will distribute monthly newsletters so that you will be aware of what is happening with our program. The newsletter will inform you of the themes that will be introduced to your child each month. It will also detail ways in which you can assist the program, as well as upcoming events. Teachers may opt to send home either weekly or a monthly newsletter, keeping you aware of the happenings in the classroom. Through newsletters we are able to keep you updated of the programs effort to make sure that your child’s light shines. Assessment is the metho d of collecting data about children in order to determine where they are developmentally and to make decisions about their education.Teachers obtain useful data about children's skills, and progress by observing, documenting, and reviewing children's work over time. Ongoing assessment that happens in the context of classroom activities can provide an accurate and fair picture of the children's abilities and progress. The purposes for assessment in programs for young children are: instructional planning and communicating with parents. This helps to determine, what are the child's strengths, needs, and learning processes, as well as how is this child doing, and how will this child's instruction and guidance be planned?Another purpose is identification of children with special needs. This allows for assessing whether the child's needs can be met in the program and if not, how does this program need to be adapted, or what program is required? The third purpose is program evaluation and accountability. This assessment allows for assessing whether the program, as now implemented, is meeting its goals and objectives? One of the assessment techniques that we use is the student portfolio. The portfolio is a system for the collection of the child’s work.Work samples are products of children's work that mirrors situations in the learning environment, rather than manufactured instructional situations. The collection of work samples along with the recorded observations of children's interactions and comments shows the child’s progress over time and in a variety of settings. The key to the use of information collected through this approach is the teacher's knowledge of child development and skill as an observer. Parent conferences will provide you with the opportunity to discuss and learn about your child’s portfolio and how it is used in assessing your child’s development.Observations will also be used as an assessment tool. Observations can be an assessment tool used while a child is playing usually in his/her natural environment. The observer is able to see the interactions between the children as well as noting speech and language, and motor skills. Lighthouse Learning Academy wants to make sure that your child will receive the individualized attention that they deserve, so we have established groupings of children for care which comply with the following staff ratios for every age group. For infants to one and a half year olds, the teacher-child ratio will be 3 to 6 infants for 1 teacher. There is a maximum of twelve infants in one room. If there are more than six infants, another teacher will be placed in the classroom. For one year olds that are walking, the ratio will be 1 teacher to 8 children, with a limit not to exceed sixteen children. For two year olds, the ratio will be 1 teacher to every ten toddlers, with no more than twenty in the classroom. For the three year old classroom, the ratio will be 1 teacher for e very 15 children, with no more than thirty. And in the four year old room as well as the pre-k program, the ratio is 1 teacher to eighteen children. In the pre-k program there are always two teachers. Children may be mixed in age groups only during early morning arrivals and late afternoon times of departure. When mixing age groups, you must go by the staff: child ratio and group size based upon the age of the youngest child in the group. During rest time the staff: child ratio may be doubled the number of children as long as there is one staff member in the classroom. Lighthouse Learning Academy prides itself on providing a safe learning environment for your child. But we know that accidents and injuries will occur. If an accident occurs at our center, we will follow the following guidelines depending on the severity of the injury. First and foremost, our staff and teachers are trained to apply first aid to minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, and bruises. The director will report t o you at the end of the day or during the day based on the nature of the injury. If your child is seriously injured and it requires medical attention, you will be notified immediately and emergency personnel will be contacted. In cases where you child has to be taken to the emergency room, we require you to sign an authorization form so that we may act during your absence. This form is provided in your enrollment package.References Decker, C. A. , Decker, J. R. , Freeman, N. K. , ; Knopf, H. T. (2009). Planning and administering early childhood programs (9th ed. ).
